Adizes Southeast Europe Prepares Conference Participants for the New Year
Adizes Southeast Europe held the annual winter club get-together in conjunction with the international conference, “The Challenges of Doing Business in New Regional Markets”. The event was held at the International Hotel in Zagreb, Serbia the week of December 9, 2011. Their objective was to bring together leaders from various countries to discuss and exchange opinions about the challenges of expanding business in the region and to develop ideas on how to cooperate in such projects.
The conference attracted more than 70 people from many countries including Slovenia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia, Macedonia and Montenegro. Though many of those who were present are highly successful CEOs, there were also students and business people early in their careers.
Dr. Ichak Kalderon Adizes provided the perfect segue to the conference by welcoming the participants and sharing his insights on importance of collaboration via Skype. Attendees were delighted by Dr. Adizes’ participation!
There were several guest speakers. The editor in chief of Croatian management magazine Lider, Miodrag Sajatovic, gave his analysis on regional cooperation. The Bosnian regional minister for economy, Dijana Bilanović gave the perspective on collaboration from a governmental stance. They had lectures on the new trends in internet business, European funds, and marketing, as well. Adizes Associate, Boris Vukic, also gave a talk on corporate lifecycles and growing companies.
The presentations promoted much discussion using the World Cafe technique. In the process whereby individuals migrated through multiple groups, participants had the opportunity to learn from one another other and discuss the possibilities and strategies for cooperation. The discussion reinforced how valuable Adizes has proven to so many companies.
Information was also presented in a roundtable format where the managing director from Adizes Southeast Europe, Zvezdan Horvat, and company leaders from Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia and Macedonia shared about their experiences as leaders, their guiding principles, and their future goals. The common denominator was the importance of a strong organizational culture based on mutual trust and respect. Participants noted that this was one of their favorite presentations.
Those in attendance also had an opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the season and the city. They visited the Museum of Broken Relationships and dined at the popular Gradska Kavana restaurant. The event was a celebration of the year gone-by but it also served as preparation for the incoming year 2012.

Graduate Students Are Introduced to Adizes
Boris Vukic, Adizes Associate and partner in Adizes Southeast Europe, guest lectured in the Master’s Program at the University of Sarajevo, December 2 and 3, 2011. This special event was a collaboration between the Faculty of Economy, Sarajevo University, and the Adizes Academy of Management. Professor Dzevad Sehic, who leads the class, invited Boris to share his experience on different topics connected with Roles and Styles of Management based on the Adizes approach. As Boris told us, the students were well prepared for this event and had all carefully read Dr Adizes’ books The Ideal Executive and Management/Mismanagement Styles. They were especially interested in application of the PAEI model and communication with people of different styles. Specifically, they wanted to know how to identify individuals’ styles and how to adapt communication once the style is known. Boris also presented how he and his colleagues use the PAEI model in designing organizational structures. The students were completely satisfied with the visit and are looking forward to a similar opportunity in 2012 when they will learn about “Corporate Lifecycles”.
