Globalization and Its Implications for Management Development

15th Annual CEEMAN Conference
27-29 September 2007, Istanbul, Turkey

CEEMAN’s 15th Annual Conference will be held on 27-29 September 2007 in Istanbul, Turkey. The central theme of the conference will be “Globalization and Its Implications for Management Development”. The host institution is Sabanci University, Faculty of Management, headed by its Dean, Prof Nakiye Boyacigiller.

The conference will focus on leadership development issues and challenges in the context of the globalizing world economy. It will explore what makes the current globalization process different from ones the world has witnessed in the past and sketch the new world that we are heading towards. Whether driving these changes, or responding to them, businesses are facing the need for a new generation of leaders, those who will be capable of leading their companies towards achieving and sustaining global competitiveness, while at the same time acting as agents of social change and transformation on both local and global scale. This imposes new challenges for business schools and other management development institutions.

Cross-cultural aspects and the related challenges for business school leadership will be discussed in more detail within the Deans and Directors Meeting, which is an integral part of the conference.

Prof Chan Kim from INSEAD accepted to be the Conference keynote speaker with his world famous Blue Ocean Strategy, while prominent academic speakers from all over the world, including Jean-Pierre Lehmann, professor at IMD in Lausanne, Switzerland and founding director of the Evian Group, as well as corporate leaders such as Muhtar Kent, President and Chief Operating Officer of The Coca Cola Company and Henryka Bochniarz, President of Polish Confederation of Private Employers Lewiatan, will provide their thoughts on these topics and inspire discussion on two critical issues.

The first is the question of the leadership capabilities needed for an increasingly competitive yet also increasingly co-operative, inter-related and interdependent multicultural world. The second issue is what business schools could do to enable business to acquire and further develop these leadership capabilities.

The 15th CEEMAN Annual Conference events will include:
