What Will I Learn?
Spiral Dynamics and Integral Psychology: An Academic Perspective
This graduate level exploration into the theoretical underpinnings within the Clare W. Graves "Levels of Existence" will provide a rare glimpse into both the research methodology and the early applications of his seminal work. Further, we will track the history and emergence of the Spiral Dynamics extension, and mesh both with similar developmental streams in what is now being called Integral Psychology. Finally, this academic course will describe the myriad of applications of the Graves-Spiral Dynamics-Integral sequences, including the major contributions by Ken Wilber and others, in dealing with real world problems. This first major paradigm of the 21st Century offers insight in such areas as geopolitics, economics, religion, the arts, coaching and counseling, organizational design, edu cation, health care, and other such manifestations.
Each student will complete a full battery of research instruments and will be challenged to develop applications of the Integral theory in their own area of interest. A feature of the course will be a demonstration of the interrelationships of Spiral Dynamics with the Lifecycle theory of Ichak Adizes, System Dynamics and Constellation theory from Bert Hellinger, as well as a number of other evolutionary and consciousness-based approaches. We may use the "Live Wire" technology to interview, via telephone, several of the outstanding contributors to this emerging paradigm, both in the United States and elsewhere.
Following the six days of instruction in Santa Barbara , the students will continue their studies for three weeks on the Internet under the supervision of Darrell Gooden, change agent for the U.S. Navy Surface Warfare Center in Port Hueneme . A capstone synthesis paper is required, as well as assignments and dialogue. Students who are interested in attending the three-week online dialogue must apply to the graduate school and be accepted in advance . Applying to Adizes Graduate School is free of charge. |
